SCF Venice Hosted Business Career Forum Oct. 23

(Bradenton, Fla., Oct. 28, 2014)— Led by Michele Groves, Career Resource Center adviser, State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) hosted a Business Career Forum Thursday, Oct. 23, at SCF Venice to help students prepare for their future careers.

Representatives from local companies gave short presentations about skills and qualifications that are necessary for their employees, the educational background and career path that they pursued to advance to their position, and the importance of completing internships to gain practical experience. The career forum also gave students an opportunity to meet with employers individually and practice their networking skills.

Participating employers included Mike Lowe CPA, Liberty Savings Bank, The SKY Family YMCA, Suncoast Credit Union, Michael Saunders and Company, Northwestern Mutual, Tervis, Publix and First Physicians Group of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System.

SCF Venice Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) Business Club members volunteered at the forum by assisting with check-in. Naomi Stiwich, president of the SCF Venice PBL Business Club, also gave a presentation to encourage students to take on leadership roles as members of SCF student clubs while they are in college.

In closing remarks, Mark Menezes, senior SCF adviser, student development, encouraged students to meet with an adviser to plan their academic courses in preparation for their future.
