SCF Model UN Team Excels at Conference Nov. 20-22

(Bradenton, Fla., November 26, 2014) —State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Model United Nations (UN) team excelled at the 25th annual Southern Regional Model United Nations (SRMUN) Conference in Atlanta, Ga., Nov. 20-22.

Representing Australia in a range of committees from the General Assembly to the Security Council, the SCF delegation received team awards, including their first Distinguished Delegation Award and Best Position Paper for the fourth consecutive conference.  SCF’s team members, including Charles Keeler, Anne Miller, Carolina Montes, Matthew Ruch, Carlyle Styer and George Vasquez, competed with more than 650 college students nationwide.

Individual students receiving special commendations included Styer, who won an individual Outstanding Delegate Award for his work on the General Assembly Fourth Committee, and Miller and Ruch, whose position paper to the General Assembly Plenary Committee received the committee's only perfect score.  This year's conference included topics ranging from the reintegration of former combatants to the refugee crisis in Southeast Asia.

Team faculty adviser Danny Fuerstman also was re-elected as secretary of the SRMUN Inc. Board of Directors. 

SCF’s Model UN team will compete at the next SRMUN conference in Charlotte, N.C., in April.
