(Bradenton, Fla., July 22, 2015) – State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will host information sessions about a program to help baby boomers earn a college degree, re-enter the workforce in another field or start a new business. Sessions will be held:

  • 6-7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W., Building 18, Room 110;

SCF launched the Manatee-Sarasota Encore initiative as part of the American Association of Community Colleges Plus 50 Encore Completion Program, a national effort to train 10,000 baby boomers for new jobs in health care and education while helping them complete certificates or degrees.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the percentage of adults older than 55 in the workforce will grow to 25 percent in 2020, up from 13 percent in 2000.

At the information session, participants will learn about how SCF provides a welcoming environment with opportunities for adults age 50 and older. SCF will reintroduce mature learners to the educational environment by helping them choose a new career, learn study strategies and update their technology skills to prepare for college life and begin training in SCF's workforce programs.
