SCF Class Offers Help for People Going Back to School

(Bradenton, Fla., Aug. 11, 2015) – State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) is offering a new class for people interested in sharpening skills for today’s workplace.

Back to School: Starting a New Chapter covers topics such as employability skills, 21st century skills for the workplace, creating an online profile for LinkedIn, and networking for a job and a career.

The class will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 19, and Thursday, Aug. 20, at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W., Building 18, Room 110. Cost is $25 for the two-night class.

The College’s Corporate and Community Development division is offering the class in partnership with the Plus 50 Encore Completion Program, which helps baby boomers earn a college degree, re-enter the workforce, transition to a new career or start a new business.

SCF launched the Manatee-Sarasota Encore initiative as part of the American Association of Community Colleges Plus 50 Encore Completion Program, a national effort to train 10,000 baby boomers for new jobs in health care and education while helping them complete certificates or degrees.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the percentage of adults older than 55 in the workforce will grow to 25 percent in 2020, up from 13 percent in 2000.
