Bassoonist Fernando Traba to be Featured in SCF Faculty Recital

(Bradenton, Fla., August 13, 2015) – State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will feature Fernando Traba, principal bassoon of the Sarasota Orchestra, in a recital at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, in Neel Performing Arts Center at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W.

A native of Mexico, Traba also has served as principal bassoon with all five major orchestras in Mexico City, as well as the Orchestra of the Principality of Asturias in Oviedo, Spain; the National Opera Orchestra in Lisbon, Portugal; and the Orquesta Sinfonica de Mineria in Mexico. Traba, a music instructor at SCF, holds bachelor and master of music degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music and has done postgraduate work at the Juilliard School.

Traba will be accompanied by Jonathan Spivey on piano. Spivey started playing piano as a child of 5 in Sweden, later studying at the Royal Academy of Music. He holds bachelor and master of piano performance degrees, and earned his doctorate in musical arts at State University of New York at Stony Brook. Spivey won the position of principal piano with the Sarasota Orchestra in 1991 and continues to appear in solo and chamber music performances locally and across the United States. He serves as organist at Church of the Palms in Sarasota.
