SCF Foundation Enlists Maverick the Manatee as Ambassador for the Giving Challenge

(Bradenton, FL, August 31, 2015) -- The State College of Florida (SCF) Foundation joined forces with Maverick the Manatee, the SCF mascot, as he visited businesses throughout the region to bring awareness to the 2015 Giving Challenge on Sept. 1-2 and the SCF Foundation’s support of its students.

The SCF fall semester began Aug. 24, and more than 900 of those college students are able to attend SCF because they received scholarship money from generous donors through the Foundation.

Maverick’s visits included the businesses of the SCF Foundation Board of Directors, including CS&L CPAs and the Manatee County Court House, Bradenton; BMO Harris Bank, Lakewood Ranch; Northwestern Mutual, Sarasota; and Farr Law Firm, Caldwell Trust Company and Turbine Weld, Venice.

The Giving Challenge is a community-wide effort of nonprofit organizations garnering support from local donors. It will be held during a 24-hour period from noon Sept. 1 thru noon Sept. 2, and is made possible by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County and The Patterson Foundation, with support from the William G. and Marie Selby Foundation, John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Manatee Community Foundation and the Herald-Tribune Media Group.
