SCF Board Report: October 27, 2015

(Bradenton, Fla., October 27, 2015) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) District Board of Trustees held its regular monthly meeting October 27 at SCF Lakewood Ranch.

The Board approved:

  • Non-financial and financial revised consent agenda items
  • A Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Bradenton Beach for Assistance for Business Continuity During Disaster Recovery
  • A grant submission proposal to The Charlotte Harbor National Estuary Program (CHNEP) for funding to expand the planting of a corridor of drought-tolerant native species near the SCF Venice lake.
  • The construction contract with David Kuxhausen Construction for $98,746.20 for SCF Venice asphalt driveway and parking lot project
  • Project approval for the Neel Auditorium stage rigging replacement

During public comment several people, including faculty, an SCF alumna, former SCF President Dr. Sarah Pappas and former legal counsel Gregory Porges, asked the Board to reconsider their approval to no longer award continuing contracts.

The Board approved the new rules related to:

  • The reporting structure for Legal Counsel to the Board of Trustees
  • Board receiving trend charts and other information concerning programs, compensation, expenses and enrollment
  • Internal Auditor Selection Committee
  • Holidays and other paid non-duty days revisions for those employees hired after Nov. 1, 2015. For all 12-month employees hired after that date, the following holidays and paid non-duty days shall be observed: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, the Friday after Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Trustee Bob Long asked for some clarification in the minutes from the September meeting as it relates to continuing contracts to more specifically address the Board’s decision to allow time for the implementation, to explore incentives for annual contract faculty, and to instruct legal counsel to address due process options.

The next board meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on December 1 at SCF Bradenton.
