Specialty in Risk Management and Insurance Offered in Spring at SCF

(Bradenton, Fla., Nov. 10, 2015) - State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) is offering a new program in risk management and insurance for the Spring 2016 term. Students pursuing an Associate in Science degree in Business with a specialty in Risk Management and Insurance will qualify for three professional licenses upon graduation. An information session regarding the program will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W., Building 18, Room 210.

"We have partnered with several community businesses who support this program,” said George Cubberly, director of SCF’s insurance program. “Estimates that shed light on employment opportunities in the insurance field are:  annual job growth at 4,537; annual openings/replacements 7,406; and forecasted 9.7 percent growth over the next eight years."

SCF’s risk management and insurance curriculum includes three new course offerings and an internship. Principles of Property and Liability (RMI 1201) covers basic property and liability insurance. Personal Insurance (RMI 2113) provides an overview of personal lines of insurance, while Commercial Insurance (RMI 2213) explores commercial lines. An Insurance Services Internship (RMI 2949) allows students to participate in work-based learning experiences. (Securing an internship placement is the responsibility of the student.)

Upon graduation, students who successfully complete these requirements can apply to receive the 4-40 Customer Representative License, the 20-44 Personal Lines Agent License and the 2-40 Health Insurance Agent License from the Florida Division of Financial Services.
