“Square Roots: A Quilted Manifesto” Artist to Discuss Work

(Bradenton, Fla., Feb. 11, 2015) – State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will host artist John Sims, creator of SCF’s current exhibit, “Square Roots: A Quilted Manifesto,” for an Artist’s Talk 11 a.m. to noon Monday, Feb. 23, in the Fine Art Gallery at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W. The event is free and open to the public.

“Square Roots: A Quilted Manifesto” includes Sims’ recently completed, math-inspired visual imagery, featuring seven math/art quilts, five dresses based on the number Pi, a blues composition based on Pi, and a video installation introducing Johannes Curtis Schwarzenstein, the Afro-German Jewish math-art poet.

The exhibit – presented by SCF’s Fine Art Gallery in association with the Mathematics Department and the Department of Art, Design, Humanities, and with assistance from SCF Pride in Excellence (P.I.E.) – runs through March 27 (closed March 9-13 for Spring Break).
