SCF Board Report: February 17, 2015

(Bradenton, Fla., February 17, 2015) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) District Board of Trustees held its regular monthly meeting Feb. 17 at SCF Lakewood Ranch.

SCF President Dr. Carol F. Probstfeld presented outgoing SCF Trustee Ann Moore with a plaque and thanked her for her service to the college and support of student success. SCF Board Chairman Ed Bailey echoed Probstfeld’s gratitude to Moore for her dedication.

Moore, who also serves on the SCF Foundation Board of Directors, assured them that she would remain involved in the college.

“The students and faculty have been wonderful. It has been a real privilege and honor and serve on the SCF board,” Moore said.

The board heard updates from the following SCF administrators and staff:

  • Chris Wellman presented plans to expand useable space for students in the Student Union at SCF Bradenton by renovating Room 148 and providing additional seating and charging stations. The project is expected to be completed by the start of the Fall 2015 term.
  • Brian Thomas, SCF special assistant to the president for constituent and government relations, gave an update on SCF’s 2015 legislative priorities, including a request for equity funding and the remaining money for the Library and Learning Center at SCF Bradenton. In addition, SCF will remain informed about the progress of performance funding for the Florida College System.
  • Gary Russell, vice president of academic affairs, discussed recent changes in developmental education, general education and curriculum development for new Associate in Science degree programs that SCF expects to offer in Fall 2015.
  • Steve Prouty, SCF general counsel, gave an update on SCF’s institutional compliance program and Title IX compliance.
  • Dr. Donald Bowman, vice president of student affairs, presented SCF’s plans to offer paid student internships and gave updates on the College Reach-Out Program, Summer Bridge Program and the Veterans Program.

The next board meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. March 17 at SCF Venice, Building 800, Selby Room.
