SCF Manatees Tennis Team Claims Second Consecutive FCSAA State Championship

(Bradenton, Fla., April 11, 2015) — For the fifth consecutive year, State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Manatees Women’s Tennis team is headed to compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Women’s Tennis Tournament May 3-8 in Tucson, Ariz. The team won the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) State/NJCAA Region 8 Championship for the third time April 11 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs.

This marks the first time that an SCF women’s team has won a back-to-back state championship.

The Manatees won five out of six singles championships and two out of three doubles championships.  Natella Nabieva won the No.1 singles tournament. Sarah Peek won the No. 3 singles tournament. Amiena Houston won the No. 4 singles tournament. Mikala Lowrance won the No. 5 singles tournament. Casey O’Toole won the No. 6 singles tournament.

In doubles play, Nabieva partnered with Houston to claim the No. 2 doubles tournament, and Lowrance and O’Toole won the No. 3 doubles tournament.  Talbert finished second in No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles tournaments. Talbert paired with Peek to finish as runner-up in the No. 1 doubles tournament.

Nabieva, Peek, Houston, Lowrance and O’Toole received All-State honors. Nabieva was named FCSAA Player of the Year, and Coach Clayton Taylor was named the FCSAA Coach of the Year.  

SCF Manatees Tennis team’s overall record is 14-2 and 10-0 in the FCSAA. The team is currently ranked third in the nation.
