SCF Business Students Excel at State Leadership Conference

(Bradenton, Fla., April 15, 2015) – State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) business students in Phi Beta Lambda-Gamma Beta Upsilon excelled at the Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL) state leadership conference March 26-29 in Orlando. More than 600 students from 27 Florida state and private colleges and universities participated in the conference.

  • Anne Miller earned first place in Business Presentation and Retail Management, and fourth place in Financial Concepts.
  • Naomi Stiwich earned second place in Impromptu Speaking.
  • Lyndon Engemann earned fourth place in Computer Concepts.
  • Mary Ward and Mickie Abel earned fifth place in Community Service Project, a team event.

Abel was inducted into the FBLA-PBL Who’s Who in Florida PBL, and was awarded the highest Florida PBL award, the $2,500 Rob Kelleher Memorial Award, which is given to the student who best exemplifies the leadership, ideals and aspirations of Phi Beta Lambda. As the winner of this award, she becomes Florida’s candidate for the National Who’s Who in Phi Beta Lambda.

She also was elected to run for the position of national secretary at the 2015 FBLA-PBL National Leadership Conference to be held June 23-27 in Chicago.
