SCF’s Darlene Wedler-Johnson Recognized with Student-Nominated Award

(Bradenton, Fla., May 1, 2015) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Venice Campus Executive Officer Darlene Wedler-Johnson was recognized with Phi Theta Kappa’s (PTK) prestigious Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction at a dinner reception at the PTK 97th Annual Convention, NerdNation, April 17 in San Antonio, Texas.

Nominated by Matthew Ruch, president of the Alpha Mu Upsilon chapter of PTK at SCF Venice, Wedler-Johnson received the award for her outstanding support of PTK.

“Ms. Wedler-Johnson's passion for and dedication to our institution and students has helped SCF build a legacy of excellence while laying the foundation for a future of innovation. The SCF community is humbled to be able to recognize her for this remarkable service and remains grateful for her today and every day," Ruch said.

Appreciative of being nominated for this prestigious award, Wedler-Johnson said, “Working with PTK has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my career. It’s my privilege to accept the award on behalf of the PTK leaders, students, advisors, faculty and administrators who are to be commended for their dedication, commitment and hard work in providing an outstanding student life experience here at State College of Florida.”

The Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction recognizes an elite group of 23 college presidents and campus executive officers across the country for their support of PTK. The award is named in honor of Phi Theta Kappa’s longest serving board chair and a founder and long-time president of Highline Community College in Washington State.
