SCF Nursing Pinning Ceremony, SCF Collegiate School Graduation and SCF Graduation May 8

(Bradenton, Fla., May 4, 2015) — May 8 marks a day of celebration at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF). SCF faculty members will honor nursing graduates at a pinning ceremony and SCF Collegiate School students will earn their high school diplomas and later join SCF graduates at Spring 2015 commencement.

SCF Collegiate School Graduation

State College of Florida Collegiate School (SCFCS) commencement ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 8, at Neel Performing Arts Center at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W.

Fifty graduates will earn a high school diploma from SCFCS and will be eligible to receive an associate degree from State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF).

SCFCS is an innovative, tuition-free public charter school with grades 6-12 at SCF Bradenton. It gives students an opportunity to earn simultaneously a high school diploma from SCFCS and an associate degree from SCF. A partnership with Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) provides a scholarship program for SCFCS graduates who have been accepted to FGCU to have the opportunity to earn a baccalaureate degree.

Dr. Mike Mears, vice president of strategic initiatives, will be the commencement speaker at SCFCS graduation. Student speakers will include Ashley Bryant and Christopher Medrano-Berumen.

Three awards will be presented to SCFCS students, including the Outstanding Graduate Award, which recognizes a student who has shown superior leadership, academic achievement and community service; the Student Appreciation Award, which recognizes a student who has been a dependable role model and constant professional with a willingness to serve others; and the Student Achievement Award, which recognizes a student who has demonstrated consistent growth inside and outside of the classroom while at SCFCS.

Associate in Science (A.S.) in Nursing Pinning Ceremony

SCF will host a pinning and candle-lighting ceremony honoring Spring 2015 Associate in Science (A.S.) in Nursing graduates at 3 p.m. Friday, May 8, at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W., in Neel Performing Arts Center.

The guest speaker will be SCF Adjunct Instructor Sharon Nazzaro. Also participating in the ceremony will be Dr. Beverly Hindenlang, dean, nursing and health professions, and Debra Marr, chair of the A.S. in Nursing Program.

At the ceremony, SCF nursing faculty will present students with nursing pins and welcome them into the nursing profession. The Pat Kuebler Memorial Scholarship Award also will be presented to a nursing student who has shown during the nursing program an exceptional effort in the learning process, potential for excellence in planning and implementing patient care, and a commitment to nursing that the faculty believe will continue to grow.  

SCF Spring Commencement May 8

State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Spring 2015 commencement will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, May 8, at Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, 777 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota.

Out of 907 students who are eligible for graduation, 375 graduates are expected to participate in the ceremony. This includes 334 associate degree graduates, 35 baccalaureate graduates and six certificate graduates.

Dr. Larry Thompson, president of Ringling College of Art & Design, will be the graduation speaker.

The Outstanding Graduate Award will be presented to a student who has shown superior leadership, academic achievement and community service while attending SCF.
