Jazz Ensemble to Perform at Sarasota Jazz Festival

(Bradenton, Fla., Feb. 18, 2016) – State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Jazz Ensemble will perform at the Sarasota Jazz Festival on Sunday, March 6, at Phillippi Estate Park, 5500 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. Admission to the festival is free to the public. 

The Jazz Ensemble will perform big band, jazz and popular music from a variety of style periods at the festival. Marc Mannino, director of jazz studies at SCF, will direct the ensemble. Mannino is a graduate of the Florida State University School of Music with degrees in guitar music performance and music education.

The SCF Music Program offers opportunities for student musicians to take classes and private lessons and participate in Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, Symphonic Band, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, Guitar Ensemble and Musical Theatre Ensemble. The music faculty includes more than 30 leading professional musicians and music educators. Additionally, local, national and international performers frequently present recitals and master classes.

The Jazz Ensemble is part of SCF’s Music Program, which offers scholarships to students through an audition process for participation in the music ensembles. Students are not required to be a music major to be awarded a scholarship. The 2016-17 Scholarship Auditions will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, at SCF Bradenton, Building 11West.
