SCF, Manatee-Sarasota Computer Students Win Poster Contest

(Bradenton, Fla., June 28, 2016) — Two State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) students won a  poster contest sponsored by Transition Venice, a grassroots organization concerned with sustainability and making Venice more self-reliant when it comes to food, energy and commerce.

Ashley McGuire won first place for her poster on development and Dakotah Cranford took second place for a poster on eating locally grown organic food. Both were students in Katrina Grey’s computer graphics class at SCF Venice. The students were asked to design posters that educate the public about sustainability.

The contest was touted through Sustainable SCF, a group committed to encouraging and facilitating the collaborative efforts of faculty, students and staff to generate knowledge and skills, and initiate practices that contribute to a sustainable, high quality of life on campus and in the surrounding communities.

McGuire won $50 for her poster showing a metropolitan area sitting on the stump of a tree. Cranford won $25 for a poster titled “Think Green, Eat Clean” touting organic foods produced locally.
