SCF, Manatee-Sarasota Biotech Program to Host Open House

(Bradenton, Fla., Aug. 2, 2016) —  The biotechnology program at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will host an open house 4-6 p.m. Aug. 24 in building 26, room 220 at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W.

The open house will offer prospective students an opportunity to meet with faculty and current students, and will include a tour of the state-of-the-art laboratory. Students in the hands-on program have won national awards, participated in advanced research and have won prestigious internships.  The targeted courses help prepare students for success in their careers and offer specialized training for local industries. Students also learn advanced skills for research opportunities at universities.

One SCF student won a Capstone $1,500 Capstone Award to present research in Boston. Another student discovered a new organism that was entered into the Small World Initiative at Yale University that combines technology, science and innovation to improve global education and health care. Students have won internships at Mote Marine Laboratories, Roskamp Institute and at Three Daughters Brewing (that one turned into a full-time job).
