SCF Board Report: August 23, 2016

(Bradenton, Fla., Aug. 24, 2016) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) District Board of Trustees held its regular monthly meeting Aug. 23 at SCF Lakewood Ranch.

The Board held its organizational meeting, electing Marlen "Rick" Hager as chair and Lori A. Moran as vice chair. 

The Board approved:

  • Non-financial and financial consent agenda items.
  • A $20 application fee that would be applied toward tuition for anyone who enrolls at SCF.
  • Eliminating the fee for the Credit for Experimental Learning.
  • The Library and Learning Center construction contractor, Cutler Associates Inc., which was the low bidder. The contract is for $12.8 million.
  • Prequalified contractors for September 2016 through August 2017.
  • Construction project priority list, including:
  1. Venice chiller plant upgrade: $500,000.
  2. HVAC controls upgrade: $500,000, SCF Bradenton; $300,000, SCF Venice; $150,000, SCF Lakewood Ranch.
  3. Safety/Security upgrades, including camera systems, emergency communications and call boxes: $1 million, SCF Bradenton; $500,000, SCF Venice; $250,000, SCF Lakewood Ranch.
  4. Eliminate on-site sewer treatment plant at SCF Venice and tie into city mains: $300,000 to construct utility connection.
  5. Replace underground hot and chiller lines at SCF Bradenton: $1 million.
  6. Replace underground sanitary sewer distribution system at SCF Bradenton: $500,000.
  7. Address life safety system issues college-wide: $1 million.
  8. Replace roofs on existing buildings college-wide: $3 million.
  9. Replace or purchase equipment for existing facilities: $2.5 million.
  10. Upgrade campus exterior lighting: $1 million, SCF Bradenton; $750,000, SCF Venice; $250, SCF Lakewood Ranch.
  11. Pave the overflow parking lot at SCF Bradenton: $1.5 million. 
  • HVAC upgrades: $750,000.
  • Directional signage at each of the campuses: $50,000

The next board meeting will be Sept. 20 at 5:30 p.m. at SCF Lakewood Ranch.
