SCF, Manatee-Sarasota Offers Dual Enrollment Pilot Program in Venice

(Bradenton, Fla., Sept. 13, 2016) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) has partnered with the Sarasota County School District to offer an accelerated dual enrollment pilot program for students at Venice and North Port high schools.

The program emulates the current dual enrollment program at State College of Florida’s Collegiate School. Juniors from the two high schools will be able to enroll for 15-16 credit hours per semester for four semesters with the goal of graduating from high school with an Associate in Arts degree.

To participate in the pilot program, a student must have at least a 3.3 grade point average, have been promoted to grade 11, and have scored at a college-ready level on a college entrance exam such as the ACT, SAT or PERT. The student also must have a written recommendation from a high school counselor.

Students will be academically advised by both their high school counselors and SCF counselors as they participate in the program. Students will be enrolled full-time at SCF Venice, and also continue to be enrolled in their high school for athletics and other extracurricular activities.
