SCF, Manatee-Sarasota to Participate in Health Innovation Week Events

(Bradenton, Fla., Nov. 3, 2016) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will host an open house at SCF Lakewood Ranch and participate in the BioFlorida BioTech Expo as part of Health Innovation Week in Manatee and Sarasota counties.

Nursing faculty members will give tours of SCF’s Medical Technology Simulation Center from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7 at SCF Lakewood Ranch, 7131 Professional Parkway E. Cathy King, an RN-to-BSN Nursing instructor, will speak about the collaboration between SCF and the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) Bradenton campus. The RN-BSN and second-year medical students work together in simulated patient and family settings, focusing on communication, professionalism and teamwork. Students in SCF’s biotechnology program will participate in the third annual BioTech Expo from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at Ringling College, 2700 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. Dr. Matt Thomas, manager of SCF’s biotechnology program, says students will be displaying academic posters and speaking about their work. “Collaboration between our industry partners and the region’s colleges, along with their students, is a facet of the biotechnology program that’s growing,” according to Thomas.
