SCF, Manatee-Sarasota Brain Bowl Team Places Third in Tournament

(Bradenton, Fla., Dec. 1, 2016) — The State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Brain Bowl team Firebird came in third at the Delta Burke Tournament, held Nov. 11-12 at Valencia College in Orlando.

The SCF Firebird team is composed of SCF students Lacey Anderson and David Espinal, team captain, and State College of Florida Collegiate School student Damien Bobrek. Espinal placed fifth in individual standings, followed by Bobrek, 20th, and Anderson, 74th, out of 92 players in the tournament.

The tournament was won by SCF’s archrivals, Chipola College of Marianna. Second place finisher was the team from Bevill State Community College in Sumiton, Ala. The tournament is named for actress and 1974 Miss Florida Delta Burke, an alumna of Valencia College.

SCF team Firebird will next meet Chipola at the 2017 national Community College Championship Tournament, to be held Feb. 24-25 in Bloomington, Minn. SCF won the national tournament in 2015.
