Another Successful CROP of Students Graduate

(Bradenton, Fla., Jan. 24, 2017) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) winter graduates included five students from the College Reach-Out Program (CROP) who received their diplomas and are continuing their education at universities and SCF. They join a proud group of first-generation graduates who have come through SCF’s CROP program.

SCF works with middle and high schools in Manatee and Sarasota counties to identify students for the program and to work with them through high school and the transition to college. The primary objective of CROP is to increase the number of low-income educationally disadvantaged students in middle and high school who are admitted to college and successfully complete postsecondary education.  Participants are students who otherwise would be unlikely to seek admission to a community college, state university or independent institution without special support and recruitment efforts.

The program is designed to help motivate students to pursue a college education, develop their basic learning skills, strengthen students’ and parents’ understanding of the benefits of postsecondary education and foster academic, personal and career development. Scholarships for the students are available through SCF’s CROP program.

SCF congratulates Yvette Alanis, Esperanza Martinez-Barrera, Arika McCormick, Sofia Paschero and Jessica Trejo.
