SCF Jazz Ensembles’ Concert to Give Nod to College’s 60th Anniversary

(Bradenton, Fla., March 7, 2017) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Jazz Ensembles will take the audience on a trip down memory lane in honor of SCF’s 60th anniversary in a concert at 7:30 p.m. March 23 in SCF’s Neel Performing Arts Center, 5840 26th St. W.

The SCF Big Band will be joined by one of Florida’s hottest jazz trumpeters, James Suggs. The band will warm up with Duke Ellington’s arrangement of George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” and then cruise through the decades like a ’57 Chevy with Leonard Bernstein’s “West Side Story,” Miles Davis’s “Sketches of Spain,” The Jazz Messenger’s “Kicker,” Chick Corea’s fusion masterwork “Spain,” and Trombone Shorty’s “Hurricane Season.”

During the construction of SCF’s new Library and Learning Center, parking for SCF’s Neel Performing Arts Center will be west of Building 11, in Parking Lot I. Entrance to the auditorium remains on the east side of the building, with a drop-off area directly to the south of the front doors. Signs along 60th Avenue West and the drive lanes on campus guide patrons to the drop-off area and parking.
