SCF Lakewood Ranch Fest to Celebrate Poetry, Prose and Photography

(Bradenton, Fla., March 28, 2017) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will celebrate the arts at SCF’s Lakewood Ranch Fest, featuring poetry, prose and photography 5 to 8 p.m. April 7 at 7131 Professional Pkwy. E. Live jazz will set the mood for the evening.

Poet Gianna Russo, whose “Moonflower” poetry collection has won a Florida Book Awards bronze medal, a Florida Publishers Association Presidents’ Award silver medal, and an Eric Hofer First Horizons finalist award, will pair her poetry with photos by Lori Ballard during a reading of “In Late Day Sun.” Russo also will offer a poetry writing workshop focused on haiku, tanka and senryu followed by open mic poetry readings.

The festival, which helps to mark SCF’s 60th Anniversary, will include the Lakewood Ranch Digital Photography Club photo contest featuring the sandhill cranes of Lakewood Ranch as well as a wildlife presentation. The evening will end with an announcement of the contest winners.

No festival would be complete without games and food. Guests will be able to take part in a scavenger hunt and can follow sidewalk chalk poetry to sweet treats. Tours of the Lakewood Ranch campus will be offered with SCF staff available to answer questions and assist with applications.
