SCF Student Art Exhibition to Open April 21

(Bradenton, Fla., April 4, 2017) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will showcase artwork SCF students created during the academic year in an exhibition April 21 to May 5 at the SCF Fine Art Gallery. An opening reception 6-8 p.m. April 21 at the gallery, Building 11, 5840 26th St. W., will include an awards ceremony.

The reception will begin with Jamie Tracy, chair of Art, Design, Humanities, discussing the student art exhibition and the program and will feature presentations from:

  • Alex Allardt, American Alliance of Museums peer reviewer, who will discuss the Museum Assessment Program underway.
  • Dr. Steven High, juror; executive director, John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, who will comment on the exhibition and the student awards.

The SCF Fine Art Gallery opened in the late 1950s to display student artwork and prints purchased by the Art Department. In the past 30 years, the gallery has mounted more than 160 exhibitions and managed the art collection, which has grown to more than 1,000 objects. Over the years, the gallery has expanded its audience as a result of exhibitions that invite collaborative input from SCF academic departments, partner colleges, and local arts organizations. Regular gallery hours are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
