CROP Program at SCF Nominated for Business and Education Partnership Award

(Bradenton, Fla., Sept. 21, 2017) — The College Reach-Out Program (CROP) at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) has been nominated for a Business and Education Partnership Award. For the past 26 years the Manatee Chamber of Commerce has recognized businesses, organizations and individuals who have made a commitment to enhance education in Manatee County. The winners will be announced Friday, Sept. 22.

CROP is designed to help motivate students to pursue a college education, develop their basic learning skills, strengthen students’ and parents’ understanding of the benefits of postsecondary education and foster academic, personal, and career development. SCF works with middle and high schools in Manatee and Sarasota counties to identify students for the program and to work with them through their transition to college.

The primary objective of CROP is to increase the number of low-income educationally disadvantaged students in middle and high school who are admitted to college and successfully complete postsecondary education.  Participants are students who otherwise would be unlikely to seek admission to a community college, state university, or independent institution without special support and recruitment efforts.
