SCF Music Theatre Ensemble to Present “Once On This Island”

(Bradenton, Fla., Oct. 5, 2017) — The Music Theatre Ensemble at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will take its audience on a journey to the French Antilles as it presents “Once On This Island” at 8 p.m. Oct. 27 and 28 and 2 p.m. Oct. 29 at SCF's Neel Performing Arts Center, 5840 26th St. W.

Based on the book “My Love, My Love,” by Rosa Guy with score and lyrics by Stephan Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, this production garnered eight Tony nominations in its Broadway premiere, including Best Musical. It is set to be revived on Broadway in November.

The production features more than 30 cast members and seven musicians under the direction of Melodie Dickerson, SCF’s music department chair. Rex Willis, composition and guitar professor, is the music director and adjunct dance instructor Kelly Burnette leads the choreography.
