Free Lecture Allows Public to Explore Celtic Spirituality with SCF’s Green Team

(Bradenton, Fla., Oct. 24, 2017) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will host a free public lecture on Celtic spirituality at 10 a.m. Oct. 27 in the Selby Room, Building 800 at SCF Venice, 8000 S. Tamiami Trail. Rev. Don Wilson of the United Church of Christ in Venice will lead the lecture, “Overcoming Your Fear of Paganism: Celtic Spirituality as Eco-Spirituality.”

Wilson has done extensive research on ancient Gnosticism and the earth-embracing Celtic spirituality of ancient Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Northumbria. He has studied with the Celtic revival leader John Nuell, from the Iona Community in Scotland. Wilson will discuss how much there is to learn from ecological spirituality and emphasize the value of seasonal festivals that mark the rhythms of earth and sky. Celtic spirituality is one example of an original primordial connection to nature and its source.

Led by Woody McCree, associate professor, art, design, humanities, the SCF Green Team is a group of students, faculty and staff who work in collaboration to design and implement projects that maintain the natural beauty and the environmental significance of SCF Venice as part of its mission of sustainability.
