Brain Bowl Team Takes First Place at Tournament

(Bradenton, Fla., Oct. 26, 2017) — The Brain Bowl team for State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) finished its first competition of the season with an 11-0 win. The 5th Korray–Shelton Open at the College of Central Florida in Ocala featured 20 teams from 11 Florida colleges and two teams from one high school.  Each team played 11 bowl games over the two-day tournament. 

The SCF Manatees scored an average of 309 points per game, beating their opponents by an average of 190 points. Individually, returning player David Espinal ranked fourth overall and averaged 67 points per round, while veteran and team captain Austin Goode ranked sixth overall, averaging 62 points per round. Rookie Ariel Rodriguez playing in his first competition scored 30 points and ranked 72nd overall. This team, which includes several other teammates, will compete again in Orlando in three weeks.
