MCC Student-Produced Films to be Shown in Festival
(Bradenton, Fla., Jan. 20, 2005) - The first 16 mm film produced by a Manatee Community College (MCC) class since the college began offering film/multimedia degree programs will be shown as part of the Sarasota Film Festival's University Showcase short films program. A second film produced by MCC students will be shown as part of the festival's Community Outreach program.
The five-minute 16 mm film, Cut, is in competition for the Emerging Filmmaker Award. University Showcase films will be screened at 1 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 30, and 12:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 31, in Regal Hollywood 20 theatres. Written and directed by MCC student Erin Solari, the film was co-produced by instructor Michael Stahr and student Debra Hussong. The experimental narrative film is about a young woman whose feelings of vulnerability are entwined with her obsession with her long, black and beautiful hair.
Another film, Battered, Bruised and Broken, was produced as part of an MCC film class and also will be shown in festival Community Outreach events. The film about family violence was co-produced and co-edited by Hussong and MCC student Damen Shaqiri.
