Local Watercolor & Ceramic Artists Exhibit Works at MCC Venice
(Venice, Fla., Jan. 26, 2005) -Two local artists will exhibit their artworks at the Manatee Community College (MCC) Venice Fine Art Gallery, 8000 S. Tamiami Trail. The exhibit of watercolor by Marilyn Cassidy, a Venice resident, and ceramics by Scott Pickering, a North Port resident, opens with a free reception from 5 to 6 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 22. Refreshments will be served.
A former teacher in Albany, N.Y. public schools, Cassidy taught early education in Sarasota for five years before retiring for the second time to pursue a lifelong desire to paint. She currently conducts workshops at the Venice Art Center and Art Center Manatee and has won several awards for her works. They appear in public and private collections in the United States and Europe.
Pickering previously reflected his love of nature through photography. He discovered the challenge of working with new designs, textures and mixtures of shade on a potter's wheel two years ago at the Venice Art Center. A frequent exhibitor of both ceramics and photography at area gift shops and local businesses, he also is a member of the Englewood Art Center and Art Center Sarasota.
The exhibit, located in the library foyer, continues through March 25. Regular gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday. For more information, call (941) 408-1476.
