Winners of MCC Magazine's Poetry & Fiction Contests Announced
(Bradenton, Fla., March 16, 2005) - Winners of Manatee Community College (MCC) Pentangle magazine poetry and fiction contests have been announced.
In the poetry category, winners are Nancy Lord, first and second place (Englewood resident); and Randall Auvil, third place (Sarasota). Darci Derr (Sarasota) and Kathy Lippard Cobb (Bradenton) won honorable mentions. Winners of the short fiction contest are Adam Bedard, first place (Sarasota); J.R. Malec, second place (Englewood); Alex P. Harvey, third place (Englewood). Eric Johnson (Sarasota) and Kylie Schaefer (Sarasota) won honorable mentions.
Judges are Philip Terman and Tom Abrams. Terman is author of Book of the Unbroken Days and The House of Sages, poetry collections. His poems and essays have appeared in many journals. In addition to teaching creative writing and literature at Clarion University of Pennsylvania, he directs the visiting writers series and is advisor of the university's literary journal. He also co-directs a literary festival at the Chautauqua Institute. Abrams is a professor at the University of South Florida. He is the author of A Bad Piece of Luck and The Drinking of Spirits.
