MCC Sophomores Named to Academic Excellence Teams
(Bradenton, Fla., April 18, 2005) - Manatee Community College (MCC) sophomore Wendy Reed, 35, was named a member of the third team of the 2005 All-USA College Academic Team. Reed and three other MCC sophomores were named to the All-Florida Academic Team.
The Florida Department of Education (FDOE) sponsors All-Florida Academic Team competition. All members of the state team are nominated for All-USA College Academic Team competition sponsored by USA Today and the Phi Theta Kappa honors society. Reed is among 60 undergraduates chosen for the national teams. As a member of the third team, she received a certificate of achievement and is named in the national newspaper. Reed attends classes at MCC Venice. In 2004, she was one of 20 honorees in the 17th Annual Florida College Student of the Year Awards competition.
Along with Reed, MCC Bradenton student Natalia Gonzalez, 21, was named to the first All-Florida Academic Team. MCC Bradenton students Chrystal Foss, 23, and MCC Venice student Jennifer Hanchey, 21, were named to the second All-Florida Academic Team. A series of events were held March 30 and 31 in Tallahassee for members of the All-Florida Academic Team. They received Phi Theta Kappa medallions and certificates. Their names are posted on the FDOE Web site at www.fldoe.org/cc.
