MCC Professor Wins PTK Award for New Advisors
(Bradenton, Fla., April 27, 2005) - Joni Pirnot, a Manatee Community College (MCC) mathematics professor, won a 2005 Paragon Award for New Advisors from the Phi Theta Kappa international honor society. She has been the advisor to the MCC Bradenton Nu Zeta chapter since Jan. 1, 2003.
Pirnot has taught in the Sarasota/Manatee area for 18 years and taught at MCC for eight of those. She formerly advised the national Junior Honor Society at the Bradenton Academy and the Mu Alpha Theta mathematics honor society at Saint Stephens Episcopal School. Pirnot has a master's degree from the University of South Florida and a bachelor's degree from New College.
The Hallmark Awards Program is the Society's capstone awards competition designed to recognize excellence in programs that promote Phi Theta hallmarks of scholarship, leadership, service and fellowship. The annual awards recognize exceptional members, officers, advisors, administrators and chapters. Nearly 500 chapters competed this year.
The Nu Zeta chapter was named a Distinguished Chapter for the Florida Region and received International Five Star Status in 2004.
