Free Workshop for Nurses Who Train Others Offered at MCC
(Bradenton, Fla., Sept. 12, 2005) - Manatee Community College and the University of South Florida (USF) College of Nursing continue to work together to address a critical shortage of qualified nurses. The colleges will offer a free workshop at MCC Lakewood Ranch, 7131 Professional Parkway East, for experienced nurses who train other nurses or teach.
"The Effective Nurse Preceptor Workshop" will provide knowledge of policies and procedures, evidence-based practice and adult learning principles applicable to the orientation process. Workshop participants will develop and implement an individualized orientation plan; assess learning styles that facilitate teaching; learn about four phases of transition for a new nurse or student; and identify causes of interpersonal conflict and strategies to resolve them.
The workshop will be held 8:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 5; and repeated 12:45 to 5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 6. Space is limited and registration is required before Sept. 30.
