MCC Music Program Presents Jesus Christ Superstar
(Bradenton, Fla., Sept. 19, 2005) - The Manatee Community College (MCC) Music Program will present the groundbreaking rock opera, Jesus Christ Superstar, at 8 p.m., Oct. 28 and 29, and 2 p.m., Oct. 30, in Neel Performing Arts Center, located off 26th Street at 60th Avenue West, MCC Bradenton.
Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist Tim Rice tell a powerful, emotional story about the last seven days in the life of Jesus of Nazareth in what became a hugely successful Broadway production and film.
Melodie Dickerson Guinta, coordinator of choral/vocal studies, and Marc P. Mannino, music program manager, will direct the MCC production. Other production team members are Lynee Price, assistant director; Allison Norton, choreographer; Jan Van Wart, set and light design; and Sheri Barker, costumes.
"The story of Christ's final days is dramatized with explosive intensity and thought-provoking theatricality. Webber's score features music that is both haunting and tuneful and Rice's lyrics still resonate with a contemporary edge and flair," said Guinta.
General admission is $12. Tickets are $6 for MCC students and staff. Tickets go on sale Oct. 18 at the Neel Performing Arts Center Box Office. Call the box office at (941) 752-5252. For more information, call the MCC Music Program office at (941) 752-5351.
