MCC Honor Society Chapters Win Top Awards at Regional Convention
(Venice, Fla., Feb. 17, 2006) - Manatee Community College (MCC) chapters of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society won top recognitions and regional awards at the Florida Regional Convention held Feb. 10 and 11 in West Palm Beach.
he MCC Bradenton Nu Zeta chapter was named one of the 10 outstanding chapters in Florida, won a Scholarship Hallmark award, and was elected the Regional Service Chapter. It was the second year in a row that Nu Zeta was named a Distinguished Chapter in the Florida region. As the Regional Service Chapter, Nu Zeta will host workshops and coordinate service projects. The MCC Venice Alpha Mu Upsilon chapter was selected as the Regional Scholarship Chapter and will host workshops, coordinate scholarship activities in the region and assist with the Regional Honors Institute to be held this summer in Jacksonville.
Both chapters received International Five-star Chapter Development awards, the highest recognition for chapter programs, and International Pinnacle Platinum awards for record membership recruitment in the Fall term. Joni Pirnot is the Nu Zeta advisor and Stephanie Cook is the Alpha Mu Upsilon advisor.
