MCC Professor Invited to Speak at International Conference
(Bradenton, Fla., April 14, 2006) - Joni Pirnot, a Manatee Community College (MCC) mathematics assistant professor, has been invited to speak at the European Science Foundation (ESF) Workshop on Advances on Two-Dimensional Languages to be held May 3 through 5 in Salerno, Italy.
The ESF focuses on science-driven collaboration between the best European researchers in all disciplines. It brings leading scientists, scholars and funding agencies together to explore new research directions and plan and implement collaboration at a global level. Pirnot's recent research on "Transivity in Two-Dimensional Languages Defined by DOT Systems" was published in the April 2006 edition of the International Journal of Foundations of Computer Science.
Pirnot has taught in the Sarasota/Manatee area for 18 years and at MCC for eight of those years. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in pure and applied mathematics from the University of South Florida (USF), where she earned a master's degree in mathematics. Grants from ESF and USF will fund Pirnot's trip to Italy. She will be accompanied by dissertation advisor Dr. Nataša Jonoska.
