Award-Winning Hungarian Organist to Perform at Neel
(Bradenton, Fla., Sept. 21, 2006 ) - Award-winning Hungarian organist Dr. István Ruppert will perform at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 10, in Neel Performing Arts Center at MCC Bradenton, located off 26th Street at 60th Ave. West. A great advocate of contemporary Hungarian music, Ruppert also will lecture from 1 to 3 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 11, in the Neel Performing Arts Center.
The Southwest Jersey Chapter of the American Guild of Organists named Ruppert "Performer of the Year" in November 2004 and he received the ARTISJUS Hungarian society's contemporary music performer of the year award in 2003.
Ruppert, originally from Budapest, is director of the Department of Music of the Szechenyi University in Gyor, Hungary, and has performed in churches and music centers throughout Europe, Japan, Brazil and the United States. Since November 2004, he also has been a lecturer at the graduate school of the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest.
General admission for the concert is $12. Tickets for MCC students and staff are $6. American Guild of Organists members will receive free admission with a membership card. The lecture is free and open to the public.
