Get Hands-On Help in Seeking Federal Financial Aid

(Bradenton, Fla., Jan. 11, 2008) - Manatee Community College (MCC) will help local students get federal cash assistance to attend college, whether at MCC or another college, from noon to 4:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 24, in room 247, Student Services Center, building 1, MCC Bradenton, 5840 26th St. West.

"Many low-income and first-generation students fall through the cracks in the financial aid process because they're intimidated by complicated forms," said Anders Nilsen, MCC's director of financial aid. "College Goal Sunday helps break the barriers and focuses attention on a service that MCC offers every day."

On College Goal Sunday, financial counselors will assist college-bound students and their families in completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). A $500 scholarship drawing, which applies to anywhere a student chooses to pursue a higher education, will be held for students who attend the MCC event.

For more information about MCC financial aid, FAFSA and documents needed to complete an application, or to link to the Florida College Goal Sunday Web site, visit www.scf.edu/FinancialAid.
