Music Students Win Honors

(Bradenton, Fla., Feb.6, 2008) - Manatee Community College (MCC) sophomore and flutist Angela Galestro won a first-place award at the Florida Community College Activities Association (FCCAA) Winter Music Symposium held at the University of North Florida, Jacksonville, Jan. 24 through 26. She received a $1,000 scholarship at a Florida college or university of her choice that is renewable for up to two years. Four other MCC sophomores won honorable mentions.

Galestro performed her winning virtuosic solo for an audience of approximately 450 people. Other MCC students who won honorable mentions in the competition included Tristan Bryce Johnson, trumpet; David Branning, cello; Jamie Diane Proctor, soprano; and William Harris, classical guitar.

Students from 16 community colleges from around the state competed in the FCCAA competition. MCC Music Program faculty members who accompanied 27 competitors from MCC included Melodie Dickerson, Dr. Daniel Steiger, Marc Mannino and Rex Willis.
