MCC Jazz Band Performs Feb. 28(Bradenton, Fla., Feb.6, 2008) - The Manatee Community College (MCC) Jazz Band will perform a variety of traditional and contemporary music in a benefit recital at 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 28, in Neel Performing Arts Center, located off 26th Street at 60th Avenue West. Proceeds from the concert will go toward the band's participation in the prestigious North Texas Jazz Festival in Addison, Texas, in April.
The director of the MCC Jazz Band is Marc Mannino. The featured vocalist in the Feb. 28 concert is Jamie Diane Proctor, who recently won an honorable mention in Florida Community College Activities Association Winter Music Symposium competition.
The University of North Texas is one of the world's premier jazz study institutions. During its three-day festival, the MCC Jazz Band will have opportunities to perform for renowned clinicians like Mike Stienel, Ed Soph, Fred Hamilton and Neil Slater. MCC students also will participate in master classes and interact with jazz musicians form around the world.
General admission for the MCC Jazz Band benefit concert is $10. Tickets are $5 for Florida students and MCC staff. Additional donations are welcomed. For more information, call (941) 752-5252.
