MCC Team Among Top 10 on National Math Tests
(Bradenton, Fla., April 23, 2008) - Manatee Community College (MCC) students ranked fourth in the state and 10th in the Southeast Region in annual testing conducted by the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC). MCC students Nicholas Miller and Stephen Coder tied for 12th place in individual rankings.
The MCC mathematics department administers the test twice a year, once in the fall, and once in the spring. Last October and February, more than 70 students took the test and the top five scorers made up the MCC's team score.
Southeastern states in the regional competition include Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Bermuda. More than 165 colleges in more than 35 states and Bermuda belong to the AMATYC-sponsored Student Mathematics League. It serves more than 8,000 community college students.
