MCC Administrator Appointed to State Advisory Council
(Bradenton, Fla., May 29, 2008) - Dr. Idelia Phillips, director of career and technical education at Manatee Community College (MCC), has been appointed to the statewide Employ Florida Banner Center for Manufacturing Advisory Council.
"Your continued support of the Banner Center during the past two years and ongoing commitment to workforce development through education makes you uniquely qualified to help guide the Banner Center from regional impact to a successful resource for the state of Florida," said Dr. Eric Roe, principal investigator for the Banner Center.
Advisory council members are leaders from business and industry, state and regional manufacturers associations, and economic and workforce development councils. They help the Banner Center fulfill its contract with Workforce Florida. The Center is charged with identifying industry workforce requirements and training capabilities; developing and delivering industry training programs; and pursuing curriculum development, industry certification and educational research.
Phillips has worked with other community colleges and manufacturers to develop education, training and certification programs at MCC and elsewhere for production workers capable of operating and maintaining high-tech manufacturing equipment. She has a diverse background that includes being a former vice president at a technical college, a management consultant, research and training specialist, and senior scientist for a manufacturing company.
