MCC Administrator Appointed to Workforce Board
Dr. Idelia Phillips, director of career and technical education at Manatee Community College (MCC), has been appointed to the Suncoast Workforce Board for a four-year term. Her appointment was approved by Manatee County and Sarasota County commissions.
Phillips has worked with other community colleges and manufacturers to develop education, training and certification programs at MCC and elsewhere for production workers. A presenter at national and local conferences, she has expertise in retention, diffusion of innovations and health risk communications.
Phillips' diverse background includes being a former vice president of academic affairs at a technical college, academic dean, management consultant, research and training specialist, and senior manufacturing scientist. She has a doctorate in education degree in public health/epidemiology from the University of South Carolina, a master's of public health from the University of Tennessee, and a bachelor's degree in biology/chemistry form Siena College, Memphis, Tenn.
The Suncoast Workforce Board is comprised of 48 leaders in business, economic development, government, education, labor, and service and community-based organizations in Manatee and Sarasota counties. They volunteer time and expertise to ensure a skilled workforce is available to meet the needs of local businesses.
