Opera Classic "Amahl & Night Visitors" Comes to MCC
(Bradenton, Fla., Oct. 7, 2008) - A production of "Amahl and the Night Visitors," an American opera classic by Gian Carlo Menotti, will bring a holiday tradition to the Neel Performing Arts Center stage at 8 p.m., Nov. 20 through 22. Other performances are at 10 a.m., Nov. 21, and 2 p.m., Nov. 22 and 23. Neel Performing Arts Center is located off 26th Street at 60th Avenue West, MCC Bradenton.
Originally commissioned by the National Broadcasting Company in 1951 as a Christmas opera for television, the touching and inspirational play about a young crippled boy, his mother, three visiting kings and a miraculous journey of faith became a holiday tradition for generations. It has been an eye-opening introduction to opera for millions of children and adults.
The MCC cast, in alternating performances, includes Megan Kroger, Karah Imperatore and Caitlin Longstreet as Amahl; Emma Mendoza, Hannah Dahlquist and Danielle Hartmann as Mother; and Dylan Jones and James Taylor as one of the three kings, Melchior. The other two kings will be played by Victor Chacon as Kaspar and Colin Cook as Balthazar. The role of the page will alternately be played by Erika Wilkes, Thavey Phoolsuwan, Ashley Lawrence, Michele Hettel, Beth Bowling and Danielle Hartmann. Additional cast members are April Barnwell, Leslie Bergeron, Jennifer Hemingway, James Lannon, Daniel Solorzano, Andrea Sorondo and Jessica Wolf. MCC music students will provide orchestral accompaniment.
