MCC Outstanding Graduate Recognized by Board of Trustees
(Bradenton, Fla., May 20, 2009) - Manatee Community College (MCC) graduate Jami Worley was recognized for her accomplishments by the MCC District Board of Trustees in its May meeting.
Worley, the recipient of the Outstanding Graduate Award at spring commencement, was the first MCC graduate to receive the new honor. While at MCC, Worley served as chief justice of the Student Government Association, student ambassador and MCC Bradenton president of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) honors society. In April, Worley won the PTK All-Florida Academic Team Award granted at the 2009 All-Florida Academic Team Ceremony in Tallahassee.
As a PTK member, Worley assisted in organizing a workshop to educate students about scholarships. Worley, who was active in the community, encouraged children to read by creating a reading program for local youth at the Tallevast Community Center and fostered enthusiasm for learning by holding a drive for school supplies. She also served as lead chair of the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.
This fall, Worley plans to pursue a bachelor's degree in philosophy and ancient studies at Eckerd College.
