Hospitals Applaud Planned BSN Cohort at MCC Venice
Melody Trimble, CEO, Venice Regional Medical Center, Dr. Lars A. Hafner, Manatee Community College president and Mary Ann Conroy, president and CEO of Englewood Community Hospital, meet in the nursing lab at MCC Venice to discuss MCC's plans to offer a cohort of the proposed bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) program at the college's south Sarasota County campus, located equi-distance from Venice, North Port and Englewood.
In a letter applauding the plan, Trimble wrote, "Making the local campus available to BSN students offers the 'close to home and close to work' accessibility our employees desire and often need."
Englewood Community Hospital's Conroy said, "MCC's proposed BSN provides the opportunity to enjoy a high-quality program in our own backyard."
MCC's BSN proposal was developed in response to requests from all eight major hospitals and other health care providers in the two-county service district. The proposal is scheduled to be heard at the state Board of Education March 17 meeting. If approved, MCC will offer the program beginning January 2010.
