(10-20-2016) Dr. Richard Barnhouse Named VP for Strategic Enrollment Management
Dr. Richard Barnhouse, the new Vice President for Strategic Enrollment Management at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF), is geared up for Spring enrollment, which begins Oct. 24, and wants to make sure students know SCF staff are available to help them explore their options.
Dr. Barnhouse, who took over his new role in July, is focused on providing a concierge experience for students and having more SCF liaisons in the community.
(10-20-2016) SCF, Manatee-Sarasota to Participate in Sarasota GradNation Summit
Nicole Stablein, coordinator for recruitment and orientation at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) is scheduled to appear on a panel at Sarasota GradNation set for 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at Suncoast Technical College, 4748 S. Beneva Road, Sarasota.
GradNation's mission is to increase high school graduation rates and ultimately prepare young people for success in college and careers. The Education Foundation of Sarasota County has partnered with America's Promise Alliance, AT&T and Suncoast Technical College to host GradNation which will offer panel discussions and breakout sessions with community and industry leaders to help students understand their opportunities for college and beyond.
(10-20-2016) SCF, Manatee-Sarasota Adds Gator Engineering Info Session
State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will host an additional information session in North Port for students interested in the University of Florida Gator Engineering at SCF program. Applications are due by Nov. 1 for the Fall 2017 semester. The information session will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26 at the Morgan Family Community Center, 6207 W. Price Blvd., North Port. It is open to the public.
The information session will be presented by representatives from SCF and UF. It will include an opportunity to check out plans for the Gator Den, a dedicated resource space for engineering students.

State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) District Board of Trustees held its regular monthly meeting Oct. 18 at SCF Lakewood Ranch.
The board received presentations on: • The Operational budget. • Student athletics, including scholar athletes and community service projects by the athletes. The Board approved: • Non-financial and financial consent agenda items.
(10-18-2016) SCF, Manatee-Sarasota Pop Culture Club to Host Haunted House in Venice
State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Venice Pop Culture Club will host its ninth annual Haunted House, 7-10 p.m. Oct. 24 to 27 and 7-11 p.m. Oct. 28, at the Lakeside Pavilion at SCF Venice, 8000 S. Tamiami Trail
"The Game House" will offer a scary twist on childhood games to anyone who dares to check in. Parents should be aware that even though there is not an age requirement for the haunted house, it may not be appropriate for younger children.
(10-18-2016) SCF, Manatee-Sarasota Nursing Students to Participate in Disaster Drill
More than two dozen nursing students and several faculty members at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will participate in a disaster planning drill at Doctors Hospital of Sarasota on Nov. 4.
The nursing students will participate as victims in a disaster scenario and will learn about emergency medical care as they take part in the drill. The nursing students will have to take on dual roles as actors as they role play to help make the disaster planning drill more realistic. They will be involved in scenarios that will include gunshot and chemical agent victims.
(10-12-2016) SCF, Manatee-Sarasota Sponsors State of Jobs 2016 Conference
State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) has signed on to sponsor the 2016 State of Jobs conference presented by the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 21 at Suncoast Technical College, 4748 Beneva Road, Sarasota.
The State of Jobs Conference has partnered with Sarasota County Schools to help students discover their passion and prepare for their future. Information will be offered on seven career tracks, including health care, information technology, business, engineering, hospitality, marketing and the arts. Speakers will come from a variety of backgrounds, including education, nonprofits, sports, banking, business, media and the arts.
(10-12-2016) SCF, Manatee-Sarasota to Help Students with Financial Aid Applications
State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will help local students, whether in high school, attending college or going back to school, apply for financial aid to pay for college from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W., Building 1.
The event, known as College Goal Sunday, brings together financial aid counselors to assist college-bound students and their families in completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Florida Financial Aid Application, (FAA). Students who complete a survey about their experience at College Goal Sunday will be entered into a drawing to win a $250 scholarship to any accredited college of their choice.

Corporate & Community Development at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will offer one-day computer classes through the end of the year.
Classes will be held at SCF Lakewood Ranch, 7131 Professional Parkway E.
(10-06-2016) SCF, Manatee-Sarasota Volleyball Player is State's Setter of the Week
The Athletics Program at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) congratulates Eliska Truneckova, who was named the Florida College System Activities Association setter of the week for her work in Volleyball matches Sept. 26-Oct. 2.
Truneckova, a freshman from Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic, averaged 15.5 assists over three matches and eight sets and averaged 10.3 assists per set as well as 1.16 kills and 3.25 digs. She also recorded back-to-back double-doubles against Polk State (44 assists, 19 digs) and South Florida State (57 assists, 18 digs), both 3-2 wins. She led SCF to two wins in three matches during the voting period.
