MAY 7 - SCF lost their opening game today at the FCSAA State Tournament 2-1 to Broward College. The Manatees wasted a terrific pitching performance from starter Nick Goody, who threw seven innings allowing two earned runs with seven strikeouts and only four hits. Josh Russell threw a scoreless 8th and 9th inning as SCF outhit Broward 8 to 4 but could not get the big hit. The Manatees stranded 13 runners and had runners in scoring position in every inning but three. Broward had a baserunner reach scoring position in only three innings and left five on base. The game ended with Colton Speed at 3rd base and BJ Zimmerman lining out to the Broward rightfielder who made a diving catch to end the game. Click here for article. APRIL 29 - Ten SCF players were recognized as either First Team or Second Team All-Suncoast Conference at this week's conference coaches meeting. RHP Nick Goody, RHP Jeremy Strawn, C Brandon Patterson, IF Anthony Caronia, IF LB Dantzler, IF Rock Shoulders and OF Bryant Elliott all were named to the First Team while RHP Ben Brown, OF Colton Speed and OF BJ Zimmerman were named to the Second Team. Nick Goody was named the conference Pitcher of the Year while LB Dantzler was named the conference Player of the Year.
APRIL 28 - SCF won their final game of the regular season tonight at Wynn Field, defeating Hillsborough Community College 8-2 as LB Dantzler hit for the cycle. Starting pitcher Jeremy Strawn was the winning pitcher, tossing six innings while scattering five hits and allowing two unearned runs to improve his record to 9-3. Casey Eskew, Josh Clemen and Jay Murray each threw a scoreless inning in relief. SCF finishes the regular season with a record of 33-18 and 12-9 in the Suncoast Conference. Their next game will be at the 2011 FCCAA State Tournament against Broward College, the Southern Conference champion. APRIL 27 - SCF lost another one run game tonight at Wynn Field, this time to Polk State College 9-8. SCF led early 5-2 behind a 3-run home run from LB Dantzler but Polk rallied with 3 runs in the 4th inning and a single run in the 5th inning to take a 6-5 lead. The SCF defense got sloppy in the 7th inning as Polk hit a two-out solo home run that should have been easily the 3rd out of the inning but the ball bounced out of the leftfielder's glove and went over the fence for an improbable home run. With Polk leading now 7-5 in the top of the 8th inning with two outs and nobody on base, SCF dropped an infield pop up that extended Polk's inning and led to two additional runs to push Polk's lead to 9-5. SCF rallied with three runs in the bottom of the 8th inning but left the tying run at 3rd base. SCF also hit a leadoff single in the bottom of the 9th inning but could not push across a run. Starting pitcher Ben Brown was the losing pitcher. Dantzler led the offense with a home run and a triple while Anthony Caronia, Rock Shoulders, Paul Stortini and Brad Bell each collected two hits. Bryant Elliott added a solo home run as SCF fell to 11-9 in the Suncoast Conference and 32-18 overall. Fifteen of SCF's 18 losses have been by two runs or less including 10 losses by one run. In the Suncoast Conference, SCF has lost nine games by a total of 11 runs which includes 7 one-run losses and a pair of two-run losses.
APRIL 25 - SCF traveled to Avon Park tonight and lost to South Florida Community College 5-4 in 10 innings. SCF broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the top of the 9th inning as Anthony Caronia had a two-out RBI single. South Florida responded with a run in the bottom of the 9th inning and then won it in the 10th. The loss dropped SCF to 11-8 in the Suncoast Conference and 32-17 overall.
APRIL 23 - SCF defeated the University of Tampa JV team this afternoon at Wynn Field 17-10. BJ Zimmerman had five hits and five RBIs, including a two-run home run and a double to lead the 19 hit attack. Rock Shoulders had three hits including a double and three RBIs while Colton Speed drove in four runs with two hits, including a double. Anthony Caronia, Bryant Elliott and Kurt Chupp each had two hits while starting pitcher Luis Benitez picked up the win. SCF improved to 32-16.
APRIL 22 - SCF defeated the University of Tampa JV team tonight at Wynn Field 8-1. Jeremy Strawn threw 8 strong innings, allowing only three hits with 13 strikeouts. Jay Murray pitched a scoreless 9th inning. The Manatees were led offensively by Colton Speed who homered twice, including a grand slam. LB Dantzler and Rock Shoulders each had two hits as SCF improved to 31-16.
APRIL 20 - SCF traveled to Tampa tonight and defeated the University of Tampa JV team 18-0. LB Dantzler had a big night at the plate, going 5-6 with three home runs, a double and 10 RBIs. Rock Shoulders had three hits including a double and a home run. Colton Speed added three hits while BJ Zimmerman, Brandon Patterson and Paul Stortini each had two hits as SCF collected 21 hits on the night. Ben Brown threw a complete game, tossing 7 innings with five hits, nine strikeouts and no walks. SCF improved to 30-16 overall.
APRIL 18 - SCF defeated Hillsborough Community College 11-5 tonight at Wynn Field to sweep the three game series and earn a berth in next month's FCCAA state baseball tournament. The Manatees scored 7 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning highlighted by Rock Shoulder's three-run home run to straightaway centerfield. Casey Eskew picked up the win while Colton Speed and Anthony Caronia added three hits each. LB Dantzler, Bryant Elliott and Brandon Patterson each collected two hits as SCF totaled 15 hits on the night. With the win, SCF improved to 29-16 overall and 11-7 in the Suncoast Conference. The state tournament berth mark's the 16th consecutive year that SCF has qualified which is a Florida state record. In other news, Polk State College defeated South Florida Community College tonight to wrap up the Suncoast Conference championship. SCF will enter next month's state tournament as the Suncoast Conference runner-up. APRIL 16 - SCF traveled to Tampa this afternoon and defeated Hillsborough Community College 6-3. Starting pitcher Jeremy Strawn turned in a dominating performance for the Manatees giving up 3 hits in 8+ innings with 9 strikeouts. Strawn carried a one-hit shutout into the 9th inning with HCC's only hit being a bunt single in the 4th inning. HCC started the 9th inning with a bloop single and a sharp single to right before Strawn was lifted from the game. HCC scored three runs before Jay Murray picked up the save with three consecutive outs including two strikeouts. Offensively, SCF broke open a scoreless game with four runs in the 5th inning as Rock Shoulders, BJ Zimmerman and Brandon Patterson hit consecutive RBI singles. Zimmerman also singled in a run in the 7th inning while Shoulders hit a towering solo home run over the batter's eye in center to lead off the 9th inning. Shoulders and Zimmerman each had three hits while Colton Speed added two hits. SCF improved to 10-7 in the Suncoast Conference and 28-16 overall.
APRIL 15 - SCF defeated Hillsborough Community College at Wynn Field tonight 11-0. Starting pitcher Nick Goody threw a complete game, tossing 7 innings while allowing only two hits with 7 strikeouts. Paul Stortini, LB Dantzler and Bryant Elliott each hit three-run home runs as SCF won via the conference's 10 run rule after 7 innings. APRIL 13 - SCF traveled to Avon Park tonight and lost to South Florida Community College 7-6 in 12 innings. The SCF bullpen blew a 5-2 lead in the 7th inning as South Florida hit a two-out, two-run home run to tie the score. Rock Shoulders hit a solo home run to lead off the 9th inning but South Florida tied the game with two outs on a wild pitch to send the game into extra innings. South Florida won the game in the 12th inning with a two-out base hit. SCF had numerous chances to score throughout the game but left 12 runners on base. APRIL 11 - SCF defeated South Florida Community College at Wynn Field tonight 8-6. Josh Strawn was the winning pitcher. Anthony Caronia had four hits including a two-run home run. Colton Speed and LB Dantzler also homered as SCF improved to 8-6 in the Suncoast Conference and 26-15 overall.
APRIL 9 - SCF traveled to Avon Park this afternoon and defeated South Florida Community College 4-1. Starting pitcher Nick Goody was the winning pitcher as he tossed 6.2 innings with nine strikeouts and allowed one earned run. Josh Clemen threw the final two innings to record the save. BJ Zimmerman drove in two runs with a two-out single in the top of the 1st inning. Bryant Elliott led off the 2nd inning with a solo home run and LB Dantzler drove in Anthony Caronia with a sacrifice fly later in the 2nd to cap the scoring for SCF. Colton Speed and Elliott each had two hits as SCF improved to 7-6 in the Suncoast Conference and 25-15 overall.
APRIL 8 - SCF lost to Broward College tonight at Wynn Field 10-5 in a non-conference game. Anthony Caronia and LB Dantzler had two hits each for SCF while Colton Speed hit a home run as SCF fell to 24-15 overall.
APRIL 6 - SCF lost to St. Petersburg College tonight at Wynn Field 4-2 in a non-conference game. The offense only collected four hits on the night. SCF pitchers Josh Clemen, Jay Murray, Steven Leasure, Josh Russell, Casey Eskew and Nick Goody all threw well in the loss which dropped SCF to 24-14.
APRIL 4 - SCF traveled to Clearwater tonight and defeated St. Petersburg College 9-8. Reliver Josh Russell picked up the win while Jay Murray recorded the save as he stranded two SPC baserunners with no outs in the bottom of the 9th inning. BJ Zimmerman had three hits including two doubles and three RBIs while Anthony Caronia launched a two-run home run. APRIL 2 - SCF lost another one-run conference game this afternoon to Polk State College 2-1 at Wynn Field. Polk scored two runs on a two-out double on an 0-2 count in the 4th inning that SCF could not overcome. The Manatees out hit Polk 9 to 6 but left 12 runners on base, including the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th inning. Starting pitcher Jeremy Strawn was the hard luck loser, throwing a terrific game with 7 strong innings allowing only five hits. Ben Brown, Anthony Caronia and Dustin Johnson each had two hits for SCF. SCF is now 6-6 in the Suncoast Conference that includes four losses by one run. SCF's six conference losses have been by a total of eight runs. Overall, SCF dropped to 23-13.
APRIL 1 - SCF traveled to Winter Haven tonight and defeated Polk State College 17-4. SCF took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning as Bryant Elliott led off the game with a home run. The Manatees then exploded for 16 runs in the 2nd inning on 15 hits as SCF sent 19 hitters to the plate. Rock Shoulders had a two-run single and a towering three-run home run in the frame. Dustin Johnson drove in two runs with a double, Brandon Patterson had two, one-run singles and Bryant Elliott hit a two-run triple to highlight some of the offense in the 2nd inning. Overall, SCF pounded out 20 hits led by BJ Zimmerman, Johnson and Ben Brown with three hits each. Every SCF starter had a hit and eight of the nine starters had at least two hits. Steven Leasure was the winning pitcher, tossing six innings while allowing 4 runs (only one earned) while striking out 8 Polk batters. MARCH 30 - SCF defeated Polk State College tonight at Wynn Field 4-3 in 10 innings. Starting pitcher Nick Goody threw well once again, tossing six innings with five strikeouts, four hits and three runs (one earned). BJ Zimmerman hit a sharp single to centerfield in the bottom of the 10th inning to score LB Dantzler who had singled earlier in the inning. Bryant Elliott, Dantzler, Rock Shoulders, Zimmerman and Ben Brown each had two hits as SCF outhit Polk 13-6. The win snapped Polk's 22 game winning streak and gave the Vikings their first Suncoast Conference loss. SCF improved to 5-5 in conference play and 22-12 overall.
MARCH 28 - Tonight's game versus Hillsborough Community College has been rained out and is rescheduled for Thursday, April 28 at 6pm at Wynn Field.
MARCH 25 - SCF traveled to Tampa tonight and lost to the University of Tampa JV team 14-13. SCF pounded out 22 hits but it was not enough as seven SCF pitchers gave up 19 hits. SCF had runners at 1st and 3rd in the 9th when the game ended via a strikeout. Bryant Elliott had five hits, including a double, triple, two RBIs and two stolen bases. Rock Shoulders had three hits including two doubles and five RBIs. Anthony Caronia added four hits while Paul Stortini and Colton Speed each had three hits. The loss drops the Manatees to 21-12.

MARCH 23 - SCF defeated the University of Tampa JV tonight at Wynn Field 5-2. Starting pitcher Jay Murray threw well, tossing 6.1 innings with 12 strikeouts to pick up the win. The SCF pitching staff struck out 17 Tampa batters for the game. Offensively, Colton Speed had four hits. Rock Shoulders and Bryant Elliott each had a double as SCF improved to 21-11.
MARCH 21 - SCF traveled to Tampa this afternoon and defeated Hillsborough Community College 8-6. The Manatees jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning with seven hits and then held on for the victory. Starting pitcher Jeremy Strawn was the winning pitcher, while Steven Leasure retired the last seven consecutive HCC batters to pick up the save. The win improves SCF's conference record to 4-5 and 20-11 overall.
MARCH 19 - SCF lost another close conference game at home this afternoon to Hillsborough Community College 5-3. The SCF offense came up with only five hits on the day, including a solo home run by Nick Goody. The loss drops SCF to 3-5 in the Suncoast Conference. All five losses have been by two runs or less, including three losses by one run.
MARCH 18 - SCF traveled to Tampa this afternoon and defeated Hillsborough Community College 8-7. Starting pitcher Nick Goody threw another terrific game but did not receive a decision, despite leaving the game with two outs in the 7th inning and a 6-2 lead. HCC scored four runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to tie the score at six. LB Dantzler hit a two-run home run in the top of the 9th inning to give SCF the lead 8-6. HCC responded with a run in the bottom of the 9th inning and had the bases loaded with two outs before Josh Russell recorded the save with a strikeout. Casey Eskew was the winning pitcher. MARCH 16 - SCF defeated South Florida CC 6-5 tonight as the Manatees scored two runs with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th inning to pull out the conference win. Anthony Caronia opened up the 9th with a walk. After a sacrifice bunt and a wild pitch put Caronia at 3rd base with one out, Rock Shoulders and Bryant Elliott both walked. After a strikeout for the 2nd out, Brandon Patterson delivered a base hit to tie the game on a 3-2 count. Nick Goody followed with a base hit to win it for SCF. Jeremy Strawn was the winning pitcher. MARCH 12 - SCF lost at home this afternoon to South Florida CC 4-3 to drop to 0-4 in the Suncoast Conference. SCF has now lost three consecutive conference games by one run. Starting pitcher Nick Goody threw another outstanding game but two errors and a wild pitch in the 5th inning allowed South Florida to score 3 unearned runs. Goody threw 7.1 innings giving up five hits while striking out seven to suffer his first loss of the season. SCF out hit South Florida 11 to 5 but could not get the big hit when needed. SCF stranded 12 runners and left the bases loaded twice. Anthony Caronia had three hits and Bryant Elliott and BJ Zimmerman added two hits each as SCF fell to 16-10 overall.
MARCH 9 - SCF lost at home tonight as St. Petersburg College won 20-7 in a non-conference game. The SCF pitching staff gave up 12 runs in the top of the 1st inning, nine of them coming after two outs. LB Dantzler had three hits for SCF.
MARCH 7 - SCF traveled to Clearwater tonight and defeated St. Petersburg College 2-0. Pitchers Ben Brown and Jay Murray combined on a two-hit shutout. Brown tossed 7 strong innings while Murray threw 2 perfect innings in a game where St. Pete did not have a runner reach 3rd base and only two runners reached 2nd base. M ARCH 5 - SCF traveled to Winter Haven this afternoon and lost to Polk State College 10-9 as the Vikings swept the three game series. SCF jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning only to see Polk tie the score with a run in the 1st and three more in the 2nd. SCF scored two runs in the top of the 3rd to take a 6-4 lead but it was short-lived as Polk responded with 4 runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead they would never relinquish. SCF had two runners on base with one out in the top of the 9th but grounded into a double play to end the game. On the day, the SCF pitching staff struggled as they gave up 9 walks and one hit batter with Polk collecting 14 hits. SCF also had 14 hits as LB Dantzler was 4-6 and Rock Shoulders had a three-run home run and a run-scoring double. Anthony Caronia was 3-4 with three RBIs.
MARCH 4 - SCF lost their second consecutive Suncoast Conference game tonight at Wynn Field to Polk State College 3-2. SCF blew a 2-1 lead in the 9th inning as Polk scored two runs on two hits and three walks to pull out the victory. MARCH 2 - SCF traveled to Winter Haven tonight to open up Suncoast Conference play and lost to Polk State College 5-3. The SCF bats were quiet until the 7th inning as Polk built a 4-0 lead. Colton Speed drove in a run with an RBI double in the 7th while Rock Shoulders hit a two-run home run in the 8th inning to cut the lead to 4-3. Polk answered with an insurance run in the bottom of 8th inning. SCF had two runners on base in the 9th inning but could not score. Starting pitcher Steven Leasure threw well but suffered the loss as SCF dropped to 15-6 overall.

FEBRUARY 27 - SCF defeated Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) 6-5 in 10 innings to sweep the three-game series. Starting pitcher Ben Brown threw well, tossing 7.1 innings while allowing only five hits and striking out seven batters with only one walk. Jay Murray threw the final 2.2 innings to pick up the win. Paul Stortini broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run home run in the 6th inning. Later in the 6th inning, Luis Benitez drove in Bryant Elliott who had doubled with a sacrifice fly to stretch the SCF lead to 4-1. FSCJ battled back, however, scoring one run in the 7th inning and three in the 8th inning to take a 5-4 lead. SCF tied the game in the bottom of the 9th on a RBI single by Rock Shoulders and won the game in the 10th inning on an RBI double by Brad Bell. With the win, SCF improved to 15-5 and will open up Suncoast Conference play on Wednesday, March 2 at Polk State College.
FEBRUARY 26 - SCF defeated Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) 2-1 this afternoon behind the strong pitching of Jeremy Strawn and Steven Leasure. Strawn tossed 7.2 innings allowing only five hits while striking out eight and walking one. Leasure threw the final 1.1 innings to pick up the save. LB Dantzler broke open a 1-1 tie with a two-out RBI single in the 5th inning. Anthony Caronia, Bryant Elliott and Brandon Patterson each had two hits.
FEBRUARY 25 - SCF wrapped up a long day of baseball by defeating Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) tonight 8-2 at Robert C. Wynn Field. Earlier in the day, SCF lost to the Major League Pittsburgh Pirates. Nick Goody was the winning pitcher against FSCJ as he improved his record to 4-0. In one of the most impressive pitching performances in school history, Goody struck out 19 batters in 8 innings while allowing only three hits, one walk and one run. Offensively, Brandon Patterson, LB Dantzler and Rock Shoulders each hit home runs. Anthony Caronia had four hits while Dantzler had three hits. Shoulders and Patterson each had two hits as SCF improved to 13-5.
FEBRUARY 25 - SCF played the Pittsburgh Pirates this afternoon at historic McKechnie Field to kick off the PIrates' 2011 Major League Spring Training schedule. It was a rough day for the Manatees as the Pirates won 21-1. Former Colorado Rockies star Garrett Atkins homered for Pittsburgh as did Brian Friday. Steve Pearce had two hits and four RBIs. BJ Zimmerman, Anthony Caronia, Brad Bell and Luis Benitez had the only hits for SCF. Bryant Elliott hit a sacrifice fly to score BJ Zimmerman for the Manatees only run of the game. FEBRUARY 20 - SCF lost this afternoon to Tallahassee Community College 16-15 in the final game of the series. The Manatees were winning 15-13 in the top of the 9th inning before TCC hit a one out, three-run home run to pull out the win. SCF was down early in the game 10-2, before scoring nine runs in the 4th inning to take the lead 11-10. LB Dantzler, Rock Shoulders and Anthony Caronia each homered for the Manatees.
FEBRUARY 19 - SCF defeated Tallahassee Community College 12-1 behind another strong pitching performance. Jeremy Strawn threw 7.2 innings, allowing only two hits while striking out 11. Luis Benitez had three hits while Paul Stortini, LB Danztler, BJ Zimmerman and Brandon Patterson each collected two hits. Dantzler also homered with a towering drive over the rightfield scoreboard as SCF won their fifth consecutive game to improve to 11-4.
FEBRUARY 18 - SCF opened up a three-game home series versus Tallahassee Community College with a 4-2 victory behind the arm of pitcher, Nick Goody. Goody threw 7.1 innings, allowing only three hits while striking out 10 to improve to 3-0 on the season. Paul Stortini and Colton Speed each had two hits. FEBRUARY 16 - This week's FCCAA Baseball Coaches' Poll has SCF ranked #4 after being the state's top ranked team in the previous two polls.
FEBRUARY 15 - SCF traveled to Sanford tonight and defeated Seminole State College of Florida 10-1. Starting pitcher, Steven Leasure, threw an outstanding game tossing six innings while allowing only three hits with no walks and seven strikeouts. LB Dantzler led the offense with five hits while Paul Stortini, Rock Shoulders and BJ Zimmerman each added two hits. Jeremy Strawn, Casey Eskew and Luis Benitez each threw a scoreless inning in relief. SCF improved to 9-4.
FEBRUARY 12 - SCF won two games in Jacksonville today, defeating Florida State College of Jacksonville 8-1 and the University of South Carolina Sumter 5-3. Nick Goody was the winning pitcher versus FSCJ as he threw a complete game, allowing three hits while striking out 12 batters. BJ Zimmerman had four hits including a two-run home run while Anthony Caronia added three hits. Brad Bell, LB Dantzler and Rock Shoulders each had two hits and Paul Stortini hit a solo home run as SCF collected 17 hits in the 7 inning game. In game #2 versus USC Sumter, Ben Brown was the winning pitcher. Brown went the distance, allowing 7 hits while striking out 7 batters. LB Dantzler and Rock Shoulders each had three hits. Shoulders delivered a walk-off, two-run home run to deep centerfield in the bottom of the 7th inning. With the two wins, SCF improved to 8-4 on the season.
FEBRUARY 11 - SCF lost their third consecutive game tonight in Jacksonville to host Florida State College of Jacksonville 6-4. SCF led 4-2 with one out and nobody on base in the bottom of the 8th inning only to see FSCJ rally with four runs. Luis Benitez was the losing pitcher. LB Dantzler, Paul Stortini and Colton Speed each had two hits. BJ Zimmerman added an RBI double.
FEBRUARY 9 - SCF v. Seminole- Home opener click here. SCF lost to Seminole State College of Florida 4-0 this afternoon in the home opener after spending the first eight games of the season on the road. SCF played a very sloppy game committing an uncharacteristic five errors while the offense could not score a run off two Seminole pitchers. Anthony Caronia had three hits while Chris Bzozowski and Rock Shoulders added two hits each. SCF loses its second game in a row to drop to 6-3 on the season.
FEBRUARY 9 - SCF is ranked #1 in the state in the FCCAA Baseball Coaches' Poll relased yesterday.
FEBRUARY 8 - SCF travled to Ft. Pierce this afternoon and lost to Indian River State College 3-2. SCF took a 2-0 lead in the top of the 6th inning on a two-out, two-run triple by Bryant Elliott. Indian River, however, responded with three runs in the bottom of the 6th inning off starting pitcher Steven Leasure who suffered his first loss of the season. SCF loaded the bases in the the top of the 9th inning but could not push across a run. Elliott led the SCF offense with three hits.
FEBRUARY 6 - SCF won two games today in Marianna, FL defeating Shelton State (AL) 3-1 in the first game followed by a 5-3 win over Chipola College in the second game. Starting pitcher Nick Goody threw 8 strong innings versus Shelton State to pick up his first win of the season. Goody allowed five hits while striking out 8 without walking a batter. SCF scored three runs in the 4th inning as Paul Stortini drove in two runs with a double and Colton Speed hit an RBI single. Bryant Elliott and Speed each had two hits. In game #2 versus Chipola, Steven Leasure picked up the win in relief as the scheduled 7 inning game went extra innings. SCF scored a run in the top of the 7th inning to take the lead at 3-2 only to see Chipola respond with a run to send the game into extra innings. SCF scored two runs in the top of the 8th inning as Rock Shoulders had an RBI single. Shoulders had two hits including a solo home run, his third home run of the season. LB Dantzler added two hits and Anthony Caronia had a double. SCF improved to 6-1 on the season.
FEBRUARY 5 - SCF's two games scheduled for today in Marianna, FL were both cancelled due to wet grounds. SCF was scheduled to play Shelton State (AL) and Chipola College.
FEBRUARY 4 - SCF's game versus Chipola College in Marianna, FL was rained out today.
FEBRUARY 2 - SCF traveled to Ft. Lauderdale today and defeated Broward College 3-2. Jay Murray, Jeremy Strawn, Casey Eskew, Josh Clemen and Nick Goody combined to strikeout 14 Broward hitters. Clemen picked up the win while Nick Goody picked up the save. LB Dantzler had 3 hits, including a game-winning RBI double in the top of the 9th that scored Anthony Caronia from first who led off the inning with a bunt single. Caronia, Colton Speed and Luis Benitez each added two hits while Rock Shoulders blasted a solo home run. SCF is now 4-1 on the season. (for article, click here )
JANUARY 30 - The NJCAA preseason baseball poll has been released with SCF being ranked #3 in the nation. Howard College (TX) is the preseason #1 ranked team followed by San Jacinto College (TX) at #2.
JANUARY 30 - SCF lost to Miami Dade College 2-0 in Clearwater today in front of 40+ professional scouts at the 2011 JUCO First Pitch Classic. Miami Dade put together four straight singles after two outs and nobody on in the bottom of the 7th inning to account for the only runs of the game. Starting pitcher Steven Leasure threw five strong innings while reliever Josh Clemen pitched well but took the loss. The Manatees offense only had four hits with Bryant Elliott collecting two hits including a double which was his 5th double of the weekend. SCF is now 3-1 on the season.
JANUARY 29 - SCF won a pair of games today in the 2011 JUCO First Pitch Classic, defeating St. Petersburg College 5-4 and Calhoun Community College (AL) 7-1. In Game #1, reliever Casey Eskew picked up the win in relief. Starting pitcher Jeremy Strawn threw five innings, allowing only three hits and one earned run. Bryant Elliott led the offense with two doubles and three RBI's. Luis Benitez and LB Dantzler each had two hits. Chris Bzozowski and Brandon Patterson each had a double.
In Game #2, starting pitcher Ben Brown tossed six shutout innings to pick up the win. Brown struck out eight batters while allowing only two hits. Bryant Elliott continued his hot hitting with two doubles and two RBI's. Rock Shoulders had two hits and Chris Bzozowski hit a solo home run. With the two wins, SCF is now 3-0.
JANUARY 28 - SCF opened up the 2011 season by defeating Chipola College 14-2 in Clearwater in the 2011 JUCO First Pitch Classic, which features SCF, Chipola, Miami-Dade College, St. Petersburg College and Calhoun Community College (AL) in a round robin tournament. Jay Murray was the winning pitcher for SCF as he tossed 3.1 innings in relief of starter Nick Goody. Goody had an impressive start, throwing 4 innings while striking out 9 Chipola batters while allowing only 2 hits. Josh Russell threw the final 1.2 innings to pick up the save. With the game tied at 2 in the 7th inning, Bryant Elliott drove in two runs with a bases loaded single to put SCF up 4-2. LB Dantzler and Rock Shoulders hit back-to-back solo home runs in the 8th inning to extend the SCF lead to 6-2. SCF exploded for 8 runs in the top of the 9th highlighted by an RBI triple from Brandon Patterson, run scoring singles by Dantzler and Shoulders, a two-run single by Elliott and a two-run double by Luis Benitez.
JANUARY 26 - The 2011 FCCAA State Baseball Coaches Pre-Season Poll was released yesterday with SCF ranked #1 in the state. SCF is also ranked #8 in the country by Collegiate Baseball.
